What do I need to know before I roam?
First, you need to decide what device/service you want to use overseas.

Mobile

Mobile Email, live!, PXT® and other data services
Then answer the following questions:

  • Have you checked you can use your mobile/device in the country or countries you travel to? Click here for more info.
  • If you want to use mobile broadband overseas, have you connected to one of our Roaming Data Bundles? Click here  for more info.
  • Have you checked that your global roaming is activated either through My Vodafone or by contacting Customer Care on 1555 from your Vodafone mobile1 (Corporate customers dial 1358883) at least 72 hours before departure to check that you have roaming activated?
  • If you travel to the US or Canada, do you have a compatible handset? Click here and search for the country you are travelling to. If you require a specific handset, you will see this mentioned in the specific handset information for that country .
  • If you travel to Japan, do you have a 3G handset? Click here and search for the country you are travelling to. If you require a specific handset, you will see this mentioned in the specific handset information for that country.


If you answered yes to those questions, grab your passport, you're ready to go. If you didn't, or still have some queries contact Customer Care, please call 1555 from your Vodafone mobile1 or call 1300 650 410 from another line2. Corporate customers dial 1358883 




Can I set up any IDD or Roaming services myself?

Login to My Vodafone and go to My Account to perform the below:

  • Activate/Deactivate and View IDD settings
  • Activate/Deactivate and View Global Roaming settings
  • Opt-in and Opt-out of Traveller (Postpaid customers as prepaid customers are set to Vodafone Travller as their default roaming product)
  • Activate/Deactivate and View Roaming Voicemail settings

Am I able to activate my Roaming and IDD services online if I am already overseas?

If you are already registered for My Vodafone then you are able to activate Roaming and IDD settings online whilst overseas. Make sure that you switch your phone off and back on, after activating roaming to refresh your settings on the network.

If you are not already registered for My Vodafone and already overseas you will not be able to change your Roaming or IDD settings online, as you will not be able to receive the temporary My Vodafone password via TXT message. Please contact roaming support on +61414 14 14 145 in order to assist you with activating Roaming and IDD.

Am I able to activate my Roaming Voicemail online if I am already overseas?

Provided you already have an existing Voicemail service and are already registered for My Vodafone, you  will be able to activate Roaming Voicemail online from overseas.



How do I view a list of the global roaming charges?
You can view a list of global roaming charges on the Vodafone web site .

Which countries can Postpaid customers roam in?
Vodafone Australia has automatic roaming agreements with hundreds of networks in over 120 countries around the world and we're constantly signing more.

Prepaid Recharge when overseas
There are two easy ways to recharge your Prepaid account.

Register your credit card before you go, and you can recharge 24/7 from your handset.

You can choose to have:

  • Credit Card recharge from your mobile or online.
  • Manual Recharge whenever it suits you.


Recharge vouchers can be purchased before you go & loaded up while you’re overseas, just call 1511. Use the same easy quick-dial numbers you do in Australia, so you can check your account balance easily.

Using voicemail, 123, 3G and other services overseas if you are a Prepaid customer
As a global company, Vodafone makes it easier for you to stay in contact while travelling overseas. You can use your Vodafone services on many networks around the world, just like you do at home.

Voicemail, Customer Care, Directory Assistance and 123

On many Networks, your quick-dial numbers remain the same. For example,

121 for Voicemail (or +61 414 121 1215)
15554 for Customer Care (or +61 414 14 14 145)
1223 for Directory Assistance (+61 414 123 1235)

24 hour customer care priority service for global roamers
Whenever you dial +61 414 141 4145 or the short code 15554 (from your mobile) whilst abroad at anytime of the day or night, you will be treated as a priority customer and will be routed to the top of the queue.

Pricing and Availability

This means your call will always be answered by one of our call centre staff and you will never have the inconvenience of hanging around waiting.

Can Prepaid inbound roamers use Vodafone Australia recharge vouchers?
Check with your home carrier before travelling to Australia to find out more. If available, International Prepaid customers can use Vodafone Australia recharge vouchers whilst they are inbound roaming in Australia:

The number you call to recharge is the same number you call in your home country.

International Prepaid roamers will have the ability to make and receive local and international calls as well as send and receive TXT. Visiting Prepaid customers from all other countries will still need to recharge by calling their home country recharge number.
