What is TXT?
TXT is the alternative way to keep in touch by sending and receiving text messages. You can send them directly from your mobile phone to another mobile phone connected to any GSM network in Australia and many GSM networks *overseas.

How does TXT messaging work?
TXT messages can be sent from your handheld device to other handheld devices on any network in Australia, even to overseas mobiles where supported. See "Send a TXT overseas" for more information.

How to send a TXT
Select:
Messages or Mail. This will take you to the Message menu
Compose or Write. Choose this to begin to type your message using your mobile's keypad. You can use up to 160 characters. This includes spaces between words. Try and use TXT abbreviations and emoticons where possible.
Send Message. The message will be sent. You will usually see a message stating "Message Sent OK" The above instructions may vary according to model type. For further assistance with sending TXT messages, please refer to your handheld device manual or contact your the manufacturer.
How do I know when I have received a TXT message?
You will know of a new TXT message on your mobile when you see the message MESSAGE RECEIVED or an envelope icon will appear on your mobile's screen. You also hear a beep or ringtone if you have this option available and activated.
How do I read and reply to a TXT message?
Instructions on how to read and reply to a TXT message may differ on the handset model type. Most handsets will give you a READ option as soon as a TXT arrives on your phone. If so simply select READ and use the arrow down button to read the TXT. To reply, select (OPTIONS), REPLY, WRITE or SEND MESSAGES. Then type out a message using your keypad. Press SEND or YES. The number of the person to whom you are replying will appear. Select OK or YES.
If you are having difficulty sending a TXT message, you will need to ensure that the Message Centre Number is saved in your phone, under Message Settings. The Message Centre Number for Vodafone is +61415011501. Prepaid customers need to also ensure that sufficient credit is available. How is TXT charged when roaming with Vodafone World?
When you send a standard TXT message whilst Roaming overseas, only 1 call record is generated. All standard text sent to another mobile number will be charged at 75c regardless of the country and/or network used and will not attract GST.
Premium TXT Services such as 1900 numbers or voting on TV shows are charged at a premium rate whilst Roaming. E.g. voting for Big Brother whilst roaming will be charged at whatever the premium rate for the service is (in this example 50 cents) plus a roaming surcharge of 50c (So total cost of the Premium TXT is $1.00).

There are currrently no charges associated with receiving TXT messages whilst Global Roaming.

What is it?
Delivery Reports are activated and de-activated from the handset and allow you to keep track of text messages sent from your mobile phone.
How does it work?
When activated, you will receive a TXT message notifying you that a message has been successfully or unsuccessfully delivered, even if the TXT is sent internationally. When a message containing more than 160 characters is sent, you will receive a delivery report for each individual message sent and charged accordingly.
How much does it cost?
TXT Delivery Reports are charged at 5c each. TXT reports with a 'pending' status are not charged. This report is automatically generated by the handset, when the feature is available. To activate or deactivate delivery reports on most handsets, go to the Messages menu and select Settings and Delivery reports. For more detailed information refer to your handset manual.

Can I TXT to non GSM networks such as CDMA in +1 area codes?
Vodafone will be the first Australian mobile carrier to offer customers two-way TXT messaging to over 80 TDMA & CDMA networks in China, US, Canada and the Caribbean for just 25 cents the cost of a local TXT!
The following conditions apply:
Australian Vodafone customers can now TXT non GSM networks, such as CDMA and TDMA networks, in +1 area codes, including the US, Canada and the Caribbean This service is available to 70% of +1 area code networks.
Not all US, Canadian and Caribbean networks will be able to originate messages to Vodafone Australia, or reply to Vodafone Australia messages.
The sender in Australia is charged for one TXT message when a message of over 140 characters is split in two on the receiving end (AT&T TDMA and Cingular TDMA mobiles only).

What ICQ products can I use with Vodafone?
Vodafone and ICQ have joined together to provide two TXT services to our customers: ICQ 2 Way SMS and ICQ for SMS.
ICQ 2 Way SMS
This ICQ product allows Vodafone customers to send TXT from their mobile phone to ICQ and from ICQ to other mobiles.
ICQ for SMS
This ICQ product allows Vodafone customers to modify their ICQ profile, check who is logged onto ICQ and manage their ICQ account all via TXT.
