Speed
The typical speeds currently experienced, according to the type of network coverage, are shown below:
Network Coverage Type
Vodafone’s 3G Mobile Broadband areas: Typical Download Speeds range* 300 kbps – 3.0 Mbps (burst speeds up to 6.0Mbps can be experienced in major metropolitan areas). Average Upload Speed* up to 384 kbps. Slower speeds can be expected in regional areas.
GPRS. Average Download Speed* 20 kbps – 40 kbps. Average Upload Speed* 10 kbps – 15 kbps.
If you’re using a device which supports 3G but not 3G broadband (HSDPA) the maximum download speed is up to 384 kbps.
*Data capacity and speed experienced may be slower than advertised speeds and can vary due to coverage, location, hardware and software configuration, capability and load of sites visited and general network and internet traffic.
Checking Signal Strength
On computers running Microsoft Windows, signal strength is shown by the symbol to the left of the Connect button, and by the icon in the Windows Notification area.
On computers running Mac OS X, signal strength is shown at the top of the Vodafone Mobile Connect software window.
Physical obstructions, such as being indoors, underground, behind buildings or behind other land masses, can reduce your level of signal strength.
If you’re having problems with signal strength you can try moving to a different location such as outdoors, closer to a window, or to higher elevation. If you’re using a USB modem try using an USB extension cable and place the modem near a window or at higher elevation.
If you’ve checked coverage in your area online at www.vodafone.com.au/coverage and you’re still not getting the coverage indicated, contact Vodafone support on 1555 from a Vodafone mobile, or 1300 650 410 from any other phone and say “data services”.
